When beginning a class assignment, it is best to approach it with an open mind and use creative energy. When one just looks to find the "right answer", your personal experience and energy will not be very apparent in your designs.

Objective criticism is a direct observation and shared understanding of the assignment where discussion is clear and to the point. Subjective criticism is more personal and one's feelings that have gone into the project are discussed. There may be some lack of clarity here, so subjective criticism may not be used as often as objective.

A cause and effect critique analyzes the compositional choices made by the artist. This helps the people critiquing see the details and understand the design more clearly.

A critique at the end of a project helps to determine strengths and weaknesses in designs. They can be quite helpful depending on the involvement of the group observing. An end of project critique determines what designs are most effective and why.
